Introverts are usually seen by most people as antisocial, but that is far from the truth. It is true that introverts are not keen on being the social butterfly, but that doesn't mean they hate people. It just means introverts are selectively social. And when it comes to relationships, there are a few additional things an introvert should keep in mind, apart from the usual relationship stuff.

Being an introvert, a relationship would be an exciting, yet scary thing. But keep in mind that all great things take time and effort, a relationship is no different. An effort from both you and your partner can surely work wonders in your relationship. There is a popular misconception that introverts will find the perfect partner in another introvert, but that is not always the case. There are many introverts that I personally know, who are happy in their relationship and have a loving extrovert life partner. So know that your introversion will not be even an issue if you and your partner share a connection.

But even if your partner is understanding and happy with your introvert personality, there are some things, you as an introvert should keep in mind.

  1. Don't take your partner for granted. While they understand your introvert personality and care for you, you also have an obligation to cater to their needs. There are cases where some introverted partners don't even socialize with their partner for days at a time. This is not a healthy or right thing to do in a relationship. As they do their fair share of compromises in a relationship, don't forget to do your part.
  2. While they might not force you into situations you are not comfortable in, at least consider giving them company on occasions they really need you. This could be a family meeting or some occasion where people expect them to be with their partner as part of a social norm.
  3. Be honest with them. While compromises are a necessary thing in a healthy relationship, bottling up your emotions and opinions is not a healthy way of doing it. Be open about your likes and dislikes and work out a middle ground with your partner.

These are some of the few things an introvert should keep in mind while being in a relationship. Don't forget that, at the end of the day it is always great to have some who understands you, loves you, and cares for you. So taking care of a few things like this would be a nice thing for you to do for them. Let us know some of your few relationship tips in the comments below.
